As an over 60 ... and very much tongue in cheek ... to Cumbrian Andy
"By which I mean, what would be the obstacles?"

Not just making it shorter, but adding obstacles? I hate to think ... add obstacles for the 'normal' parkrunners as well ;-)

'obstacles'... I imagined the seniors leapfrogging the juniors!

I'm now reminded of those initiatives to have dementia units and preschool groups on the same site because it's Good For Everyone Concerned.

Fierce and Focused Fleecy
Libraries (free!) have printers and it costs you literally 10p per page for a black and white page of lots of bar codes. I’m up to nearly 60 parkruns using mostly a paper barcode sticky taped to a bit of cardboard. I was considering getting ds1 a wristband barcode because I figure he will use it a lot now he’s got the parkrun bug :)

The plastic cards are the same as a credit card, which usually expire within a few years and the parkrun cards seem to last longer. Seems like an ok deal for the environment, maybe people should fret instead about people driving to parkruns...?

Put some sellotape around the card or tag and they will last forever.

So what's the Edinburgh options for parkrun? I seem to be here (there) for the week and probably have a spare couple of hours on Saturday morning. Staying near Blackford hill.

Cramond: by the beach, busy, flat and potentially fast, but can have fierce winds.

Portobello: park, three laps, fairly flat, quite busy and narrow at parts.

Er, that's it, really. If you have a car there are several others within reasonable reach (of which, I would of course recommend Falkirk :-).)

Snayak, glad you enjoyed Lochore so much, it is an excellent addition to the Scottish scene.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
As a fast runner like you jda, the two Edinburgh courses are good, but crowded for slower runners. Edinburgh (at Cramond) is very quick on a still day with no overtaking required, Portobello is a nice wee park but there can be quite a bit of overtaking. Both are easy bus trips, Cramond has easier parking and the local area is worth a visit as a tourist.

Vogrie is just outside Embra if you have transport, off road and fun but not one for a PB. Lots of parking. Dunfermline is easy to get to, quieter than the city events and the park is worth a visit. Easy parking. Quite hilly but wide paths make overtaking easy.

Hope that helps!

With the plastic barcode tag parkrun-barcode.com I will be putting it in the recycling if there comes a time when the print has worn off. Let us suggest that this is in 2 years time, I submit that if this was the general turnover rate of plastic objects and the subsequent disposal method then we would not have the dire problem we do.

The most ecological thing I could do regarding parkrun would be not to go at all since there isn't one closer than 15 miles from home. I'm not going to fret about the minutiae of the environmental impact of the different scannables.
