Everyone should have their barcode tattooed on the back of their wrist. Simples!
(That’s until they introduce profile chip implants which can be read with a scanner).

With sustainability the key point is re-use isn't it? I would imagine the plastic tags will go on until friction has worn off the print. My laminated ones used to last about a year before inevitably ending up in the wash or coming apart.

We had a 90 year old complete our course on Saturday in pretty hot conditions. After she said "5k is too much for a 90 year old, there should be a senior parkun, like there is a junior one".
Not a bad idea i thought. Without scrolling through bazillions of old posts, has this idea been floated before?

I suppose on multiple lap courses the senior citizens could elect (if they wanted to) to do fewer laps and still get scanned. I can't think of many who would object. Other than opening the floodgates to loads of "slower" participants who wanted to get their t-shirt count up without running the whole 5k, would that be tolerated?

As a fully paid up member of the over-50 thread, I don't fancy it at present. :-) I think our oldest parkwalker was our ED's mum who walked it all (she's 81) but we have a 79 year old who regularly beats me, so age is not really the issue.

Not sure our octogenarian contingent (about half a dozen of them - only one of whom power walks rather than running - never 'last' unless they are tail walking) would go for it either - but, as usual, we're talking about people who are already active and able to complete 5k in relative comfort. If the aim of parkrun is to get more people active, I suppose it's only a matter of time before the idea is explored further.

How hard would it be to stage a senior and junior parkrun at the same venue? By which I mean, what would be the obstacles?

And then, a parkrun for people who aren't senior citizens but have specific health challenges that make 5km a very long way?

I think I mentioned before that we have a lady who recently completed 150 parkruns having run her first aged 79😊

Plastic will last longer, that’s part of the problem with plastic. What happens when it’s no longer wanted?

I know Great Run Local has a 2K option for some courses which tended to be more popular than the 5K on some occasions. Not ideal though as there isn't many of them of the major cities.

Assume Ill be banned for mentioning them on this thread though.
