Just seen some great pics on a friend's FB from their NYD parkrun at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. That's some course! Along a beach, up steps, up a grassy bank, some prom, more steps - and round again. There's a llama and a donkey en route.

So far, so odd: but they ran it with their eight month-old in a buggy pram. Cracking action shot of her and partner carrying the buggy up the banking after making it up the steps :-).

I have only run Portobello 4 times and I will confess to having been a culprit :-O.

However, for anyone to have seen me they would have to have gone out of their way to find me.

What I also noticed is that there are some dog walkers who don't seem to want to share the park with runners for 45 mins on a Saturday and you do have to run to avoid dogs at times. I do wonder if that's the conflict that's the root cause.

Now thats interesting, my understanding of the law (probably wrong mind) was that it is only illegal to urinate in public where an area has a byelaw to that effect...

You can be ticketed for indecent exposure IF you are exposed with the intention of causing alarm or distress. I think that would be exceedingly difficult to prove in this case.

Although, I have vague memories of the rules about being IE being different in Scotland from that naked rambler who kept getting arrested.

Personally, I wouldnt pee in alleyway, because I would be worried about being seen, but I have no problem morally with peeing in a bush.

It is an interesting thing. Historically, peeing outside was very much the norm, this obsession with toilets (and being DISGUSTED!) is very much a modern invention. Maybe all parks should have a pissoir, or a "nature toilet"?

Of course, in an advanced, prosperous society, especially one with an aging population, what we should have is widespread, hygienic and freely available public toilet provision. Like there was fifty years ago.
