Sometimes if you have a receipt you can use that to show you were a customer

I think that it would be useful if Philips parkrun added a note on their course details page to say that parking is chargeable after a certain length of time. Many other parkruns do this.

But they recommend parking elsewhere and don't mention the Asda carpark so I don't see an issue. (Not saying I don't sympathise MM)

One hour is very short for a supermarket, especially if it has a cafe. A local Morrisons has a limit of two hours and people moan about that!
Do you know if the rules of the car park were clearly set out? You could argue that they weren't, so you won't pay, but it's more difficult than it used to be to get out of private car park "fines". However, if they can't demonstrate that the signs are clear, they will struggle to make it stick. But usually they are clear as they know full well that it will be the first question any court asks.
When I did the new Totnes parkrun on Easter Saturday someone was moaning that there was a traffic warden around the car park where the parkrunners were parking. Clearly the council allowed the event, then sent a traffic warden out at 8.30! They are alway super-keen at Dinton Pastures when there are events on, as well. But they are both council car parks rather than private ones.

My home parkrun is at a leisure centre and they have a three hour limit. It is well signposted, but people still fall foul of it (if you want to stay longer you put your reg no into an iPad at reception).
The leisure centre is nowhere near anywhere else. They reckon people would otherwise use it for the railway station if they didn't have the limit. The railway station is two miles away. Even though the local council has been very clever at putting parking restrictions on every road near the station (and town centre), you can still park 10 minutes' walk away, so you don't need to be two miles away! It is a completely bizarre parking restriction.

At Sutcliffe the car park charges from 9:00 so they delay the start a couple of mins to give drivers a chance to pay first (you can’t pay before 9)

Pretty sure that Asda at Phillips Park has an hour limit to deter football fans trying to park there for Man City games and the occasional big event at the Velodrome. Was like that when I used to live round there but it been a long while now.

I think you’re right it will be to stop football fans parking there, but an hour seems a bit tight for a big shop with kids and the cafe. Any how, I fell foul so will pay up to avoid the hassle. I did buy something but didn’t keep the receipt unfortunately.

Our big Asda has a 3 hour parking and the one at the retail park is 4 hours mainly due to other shops being there too.
