we once did a partial version of that when one of our three barcode scanners lost their data (about 60 results in total) - wouldn't like to do it for a whole parkrun

I once had to deal with one scanner failing so I asked anyone missing to email in with their name, athlete ID and position and/or approximate time. Fortunately I didn't have much else on that weekend!

What took the time was dealing with those who emailed in saying simply 'hi I am John and I was in position 27' - John who?!! or 'hi I am Sarah Smith and I was one of those missing' - give me a clue where you want me to add you!!

I did go to Castle Park in Bishop's Stortford. It gave me a later start to get there. It was a tricky run though, mostly on grass, some of it very muddy and also very congested at the start. It would be better when works in the park have finished and it has dried out.

In other news, while I was away my son ran at Sandhurst, our local which was also very muddy. He ran round in 21:21 and his first ever first place finish. :-)

Castle park is my nearest and out of my 113 one of my least favourite courses.
Well done to Groundhog Junior.

Castle Park sounds like my sort of parkrun in the Summer, not necessarily in the Winter!

I was reminded this week, on our 10th birthday, that on week 1 the timer (device not person) failed so we had no times at all.
We made the rookie error of only having 1 timer and the old devices were famously unreliable. From then on we've always had 2 which covers device failure and takes the pressure of the vols.

There's no obligation to do anything other than give everyone 59:59 but we wanted to do our best to give results so asked people to mail their times and spent part of the weekend manually adding them - update 1 and give the people behind the same time until we reached the next person to mail and so on until we got to #290.
