I tend to tour for parkrun (as part of a daytrip) more than settling on a home parkrun.

My parkrun results definitely reflect that I will really slack it off if there are any hills!

I don't think Falkirk is long, dobbers, I think its covered in trees ;-) I could show you quite a number of wayward traces of it (having run it 249 official times). Hope your friend had a good G2E.

Thanks Dvorak - it was not a criticism - I liked the route in the trees and the fact it was a 1 lap course.

My mate had to drop out of G2E at Falkirk Wheel about 25 miles in - he was not feeling it on the day and did not fancy at least another marathon to the finish.

G2E is a long and relentless route. Still my best ultra performance though (before they added on the extra starting closer to the city in Glasgow rather than on the canal at Ruchil! :-) G

We'll be visiting York pr on Saturday (ahead of the marathon on Sunday). Would be nice to say hello to anybody else who is about.

From where we are staying, the quickest and easiest means to get there will be to walk to the start. I gather the start is some distance from the finish where we would prefer to be leaving a bag/jacket for afterwards - so we'll need to leave time to get from start to finish and back again before the off. Does anybody know if we'll be OK walking to and from directly across the grassed area in the middle of the racecourse or if we will be compelled to stay on the tarmacced run route (which looks notably further)? Alternatively, do the team offer/provide a sort of unofficial 'bag transfer' service (no reason why they should!) between the two? None of the options will be problematic but the availability (or otherwise) of some over others may affect the time we'll need to be leaving the hotel. Any insights will be appreciated. Thanks

When I visited York (December 2019), there was a bag transfer from start to finish - for which I was very grateful. On the way to the start, we went around the tarmac rather than crossing the infield (I assume it's possible to do so, but don't take my word for it!). In our case, as it had rained very heavily the night before, the grass verges of the tarmac track were *very* muddy, so probably best avoided anyway.

It's a lovely course - flat, and fast. It can get congested because it's quite narrow (it took me 23 seconds from "go" to actually crossing the start line!). There's a very slight dip in the track about 400m in, and as a consequence of the heavy rain there was a puddle spanning the entire course - they call it "the puddle of broken PB dreams".

Despite all that, I set a new 5k PB there. (Which lasted a whole four days until I visited Hartlepool on Christmas Day 😆). We then joined the regulars in the pub for breakfast afterwards, where I had one of the finest sausage baps it has ever been my pleasure to experience.

No Gobi, cancelled due to the CX. Have fun :-) That's an early slot.
