Wish I could do 45 minutes of continuous running, @Rosehip ! Perhaps next year. See below!

I was thinking that it was Redcar tomorrow, not next weekend, @Solo , @OO61 !

So, walk for about 5 minutes, run two very slowly, walk a minute or so, 1.5 minutes run, then 7.5 minutes run, the longest continuous run since February. Actually perspired, the first time since Feb, one PRP injection apart. Might have been to do with the 21 degrees heat, two thick thermal tops and tracksters. Train heavy, race light. Slow as it was, breathing was dreadful. HR obviously high for the speed, but at least I am running. Progress!

progress indeed @alehouse hope it continues :)

I started with the run-walk thing in 2015 or 16 when returning from a bad bout of PF. I then made the mistake of thinking I could combine it with keeping low hr, but found that anything over a five minute run or so - however slowly I tried to run- got my hr "too high" and I got stuck.
I've tried to get back to continuous before, but always had the "hr too high, not sustainable, you'll never get long runs done" in my head which has held me back.

This time round I'm trying very hard to ignore that and just keep going!

@Rosehip , I am ignoring all stats apart from time on feet. And running to feel.

I am too tired to read back so a big group hug for those that need it.

Lake V is my favorite half marathon last run in 2017.

Solo: Nice Wava!

NZD Hope is foot/ankle?

Rosehip: Keep going.Did you tape Achilles? I combine with compression socks and seems to help.

4 miles this morning and then mad dash as had to get the bus first time with bus pass and since we moved here over 2 years ago.Let us say 3.5 hours on bus does nothing for Achilles and 4 mile walk.

Is it bedtime yet!

@NZD crazy situation with regards the hospital but thank goodness the GP was able to help. I am not surprised you were tired after another mammoth garden stint.

@Rosehip 45 minutes continuous is a good place to be and I am another who wouldn't worry about hr at this point and just run to feel.

@alehouse great to hear you able to work hard enough to perspire. Progress!

@Welshpoppy not sure I could sit on a bus for 3.5 hrs. Hope you sleep well.

@OO61 brilliant stuff! Well done.

Another easy hour for me this evening in near perfect conditions.

@Rosehip. Yes, stumps can be a pain. Hmm, wonder if it is the origin of sayings such as "I' m stumped"?
@alehouse good progress.
@Solo good outing. Always much nicer in near perfect conditions.
@Welshpoppy not surprising you were shattered after 3.5 hours on a bus.
@OO61 very well done. Indeed those hills get tougher with age. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the trend continues well past 61..!

A bit disorganised early this morning. MIL slipped getting out of bed and couldn't get up so we had to dash around to her place before I headed out for a run. Fortunately not injured (the mattress had slipped off the bed, which probably protected her but also wedged her against a desk. Fortunately there was a phone on the desk). Will keep her at our place for a few days so can make sure she is OK. I was already in running gear before she phoned, so did my run (9km) from her place. Not one of my usual routes!

Belated welcome @Rosehip - that's a lot of posts you have there.
utmost admiration for anyone tackling ultra distances!

My only experience of those was back in my extreme youth (under 21!!) and tackling the Lyke Race Walk (or run) over the North York Moors a few times on totally inadequate training :-)

that is very good progress indeed. No reaction I trust?

@NZD

that must have got the HR up a bit! Your MIL must be a good age as well!
Nice change for your running route though?
Really quite extraordinary episode with your hospital - good to hear your GP has got you covered and maybe the increased absorption of nutrients will lead to performance improvement - silver lining :-)

Your stump struggles seem never ending - my solution would be not to plant a camellia there!!

@Solo super excellent AG and a target for a mini taper in the future?
10 hours sleep - I am currently lucky to get half that

@OO61 great effort on what sounds like a very challenging course - and three laps as well so you know what's coming!

@Welshpoppy

where were you travelling to for that length of time - Paris?!
Hope the achilles settles down. When I mentioned a wedge it would be in addition to your orthotics to reduce the travel distance

@Canute still progress so well done!
Yup - evidence suggests ( and I am a fine example) that performance decline steepens in ones' 70s.The suspicion is that the DNA spirals in one's muscles get increasingly fragmented and so repair/rebuild becomes more difficult.

Hospital visit was somewhat productive - a very minor painless plastic surgery procedure under local anaesthetic may have done nothing to improve my looks (not really possible!) but hopefully has helped healing. Bit/lot more painful when the anaesthetic wore off later in the day!
Then off to orthopedics - full assessment on legs and knees. No discernable meniscus tear, only the narrowing of the gap on the inside of the knee which will cause a problem if any sudden lateral instability occurs. Pushed physio over as he assessed my leg strength!
Some interesting micro exercises to do in addition to the normal ones. Running is permitted in small doses once the other bits heal.

Spent 10 mins chatting with a small, very happy, girl in the waiting area, her Mum said she never stops talking. Was only aware she only had one leg as she went off for treatment - think I can live with my problems:-)
