@Torque Steer sensible to walk if the knee is grumbling. Next week's race is our local 10k with cash prizes for all ages. I won 50 pound last year for second in my age category. Great crowd support along the whole route through the city on a challenging course. (Hoping Hilly doesn't read this 🤣🤣) Popular race and sells out very quickly.

@Solo shush Hilly will never notice Nice decent cash prizes. NZD: You have a good memory with my races but already said after Covid I would not do Cardiff justice and 10k is local so it depends how my body is as no point if I can not do it justice. TS:Always wise to play the sensible hat:) Hilly: Good luck for tonight a go faster haircut as well 9 degrees here this morning and a nip in the air but 5 miles was run.I hope for better sleep but may have to go get some tablets to help if it does not improve. |

Skipped parkrun again this morning. Rain radar showed a wall of water and thunder looming down. Rain started at our place a bit before the start though thunder and torrential rain not until about half hour later. Would have been some wet runners if the same there. Unsurprisingly the smallest field in a long time. @Hilly hope it went well last night. Oh dear, 9C is chilly in summer @Welshpoppy. Well I owe @OO61 a big vote of thanks for drawing attention to the age category course stats in the 5k runner app! Having a bit of idle time this morning (raining), decided to check the M75 record times for the few overseas courses I have run. Quite surprised to find I have the record for South Beach Recreation Reserve parkrun in Fremantle (Perth, AU), in addition to our local Millwater one. Will have to take back my scathing comments on the Fremantle course (the 6" deep loose sand etc)! Agree with @OO61, @Solo, @Hilly, & @alehouse that it is good to have the records as a gentle incentive us ever so slightly competitive types 😁 |

Haha Solo. I'm otherwise engaged. 😅 Hope you have a good race! NZD - nice surprise with parkrun records! 😁 Mid Cheshire 5k International last night and I had a very positive experience. I ran my fastest 5k since 2013 with 20:56 and finished 3rd F60 so picked up a podium prize. Chuffed to bits if I'm honest as I know 5k is not my strongest race distance but I have been feeling sub 21 is there on the right day and last night it was right! 😁 Off to Widnes parkrun now for a steady run. |

Running is so personal and finding things that keep us motivated is very important. Nice surprise on a rainy morning @NZD Brilliant result @Hilly I know you have been chasing that sub 21 for awhile and what a place to do it. Congratulations on the podium place too. I raced a 5 k against the lady who was fourth a few of weeks back. I beat her by over 30 seconds so interesting to see her time on a better course or she could have just got fitter 🤣. She in entered into the GER too. I am still undecided whether to do the masters or not. Hope you had a better sleep @Welshpoppy |

NZD: Good job in staying dry and finding the records you hold on parkrun. Hilly: Well done on result. Solo: Good luck for race. Sleeping is still tough but had a little bit more last night. Ran over 4 miles this morning .I have a choice of 4 or 5 routes but the one I opted for......road was closed by Police so I thought a car accident .I had to divert to a different road and find a house roof on fire with three fire trucks trying to sort it out! @Hilly - Great result, podium finish And very well done on getting under 21 min - a mini taper does work @Solo - you have the other lady in your sights @NZD southern softie Can't believe you have become competitive and left us non-competitive types behind... @Welshpoppy - that's a different sort of diversion!! I have suddenly found that my sleep patterns have changed - maybe down to the lack of exercise in my case, but 3-4 hours is all I mange before waking up Saturday is normally a "rest" day anyway - only 6-8 hours of gardening so a doddle - but I checked what Garmin's recommendation was for today - 1 hr 24 min at 12:40m/m! Not sure how that computed. Knee still a little tender but I am sure the aforementioned gardening will loosen it up for tomorrow... |

@Hilly an excellent result. @Torque Steer I hope the knee tenderness resolves quickly. Today I completed the 8th of my modified C25K sessions. In my first session on 17th Aug, I had done 12 repeats of (60 sec jog, 90 sec walk). Since then I have steadily increased the total amount of jogging per session by about 4 min each session. Today I did 19 repetitions of (120 sec jog; 60 sec walk). My knee is quite happy; the puzzling swelling of my calf and foot persists but is gradually diminishing. |
