Take care Welshpoppy....
I see reps as a way of pushing myself on solo runs, rather than just plodding.

@Welshpoppy take care - hope the bug is short lived

Not much to report here - still the same conditions, in fact slightly worse as the dazzling sunlight has fractionally melted the snow and ice and then it has refrozen overnight into ever more slippery surfaces.
Roads are clear but traffic and reduced width makes them too dangerous to run on particularly with no specific targets on the horizon - apart from running pain free that is :-)

More exercises - I am finding the one legged rep stands from a chair with 10kg of weight to my chest and then to above head height suitably taxing for now along with resistance band training for my glutes!!

oh yes- two perfectly straight diagonal lines had formed in the snow on the front lawn stretching the entire width about 2" wide.

Looked puzzledly at them for some time before realising that they were caused by the iced snow on the overhead telephone lines thawing and then dropping with some force into the untouched snow!!

Hope virus clears up soon @Welshpoppy.

Ran my long run late today. Longest at 16k/10m which was my original target distance. So well pleased, perhaps more so that I think I've got this long run pace dialled in now.

Short hill reps earlier in the week. They've gone from 5x to 6x to 8x 160m. I've built up capacity for more volume. c. 50 seconds of effort, 2 min walk down recoveries. Although this time I split the 8 reps into 2 sets with a longer 4 min recovery between each.

I'm still thinking about interval distances and recoveries @Torque Steer. The ones above must be relatively long recovery, and that works for them. For 800m intervals, I don't think I could recover sufficiently in a shorter time than I am doing and still run the next one well enough. But I've time to experiment and happy to say if you're right.

Also maybe 800m is not the best distance for me to train at. If I went for 400m that's closer to the hill rep scheme. Or longer at say 1200m when your 2 minutes spent on getting up to LT level is not so bad a trade-off. Simply learning to run at a faster pace is good in itself. I agree Daniels may be old-hat and young focused. I've been reading up on the Norwegian LT method that seems all the rage. But overall I'm well happy with how things are going.

We let go our old dog Milo earlier in the week. It was time. Odd not having the old routines with him.

@easyrider it must be good to see the double digit (imperial) milestone come up - well done.

Hill reps are very good for improving running up hills which you will need for your upcoming race as it improves quad strength and aerobic capacity over a period of time, 6-8 weeks, and makes hills that much easier to face. Also less intense than reps on the flat as gravity acts as a break and so less likely to cause injury than faster speed workouts.

There is no one size fits all as far as other reps are concerned - I have always concentrated on running at faster than LT pace to get the body used to absorbing excess lactate, the so -called buffering effect, and it probably came more naturally to me coming from a sprinting background - and I liked the feeling of speed (well relative speed) anyway :-)

I recall reading a paper by Peter Coe (father and trainer to Seb Coe) who advocated very intense LT days of training. He used to use a car to pick Seb up at the top of a hill rep and drive him back down to the start so that his rest period was minimised!
But training specifically for 800/1500m is rather different to middle and longer distances.

Thaw has started here at long last and fortunately at quite a modest rate so hopefully no floods other than in my gardens where I have piled all the snow shifted from the drive.

Had an early morning appointment at the hospital for a follow up full body melanoma check conducted by a young and rather attractive female doctor, who gave me the peremptory request to strip down to my underwear, then literally running all over my body with her diagnostic equipment.
Complete clean bill of health which is some relief. We discussed sun screening and when I described how I normally ran early in the morning and often faced a horizontal sun she recommended using sun cream on exposed skin all year round - which I will do.

Just need to get out there.......

Oh dear @Welshpoppy, you have had a rough few months ☚ī¸. Hope you have a long period free of bugs once you get over this bout 🌹.
So quiet tropical now @Torque Steer! Hope you managed to get out for a run this evening.
Sorry to hear about your dog @EarlyRiser. Good progress with your training.

Late night easy 6.6 km run along Singapore River path after dinner last night. Hot & muggy despite 10:40 pm start. Alas a bit too soon after dinner (c. 1hr 30 mins). Tummy pretty uncomfortable. But was the only chance for a run I was going to get in Singapore.

Needed to try out new race shoes brought over from Tokyo by colleague from Tokyo office. He managed to secure the last pair of Metaspeed Sky Paris shoes in Tokyo for me. None available my size online or shops in NZ for the last couple of months (& ditto online in Japan). Fortunately fit is spot on. Nice but not going to make a whole lot of difference. Would need rockets attached for that!

Now taxiing to runway en route to London (then on to Bermuda c. 6 hrs later. Better switch to plane mode!

My daughter ran at university in Sheffield. I remember her telling me about a hill near her her student digs that was famous for Coe's Hill sesh.
TS congrats on the clear screening 👍
Double day sesh today for me, in spite of a sore knee.
