I've never seen them but suspect they'll be somewhere out towards the Solway coast where you can't grow anything apart from low-lying animals.

I can still see, all too clearly, the half a pig's head Mum had put in a bowl on the cold slab in the larder, prior to making brawn as a treat for my Dad. Did I eat any of the brawn? You must be joking (though in fairness, Mum was a very good cook and it was probably very tasty.)

Gran took great pleasure in showing me the giant sausage-shaped thing in a bowl of water.

My Mum must have really loved my Dad as she never ate any of these things she cooked for him (Am I right in remembering that the 'skin' of the tongue, once cooked, just peeled away on one piece?)
