B&Q used to do a Wednesday 10% discount for over 60s but you had to provide proof of age, such as your driving licence, so I imagine your garden centre would have asked as well.

B&Q stopped the discount last year. However, if anyone make a purchase with the Diamond Card, sometimes you receive a money off voucher (e.g. spend £25 get £3 off your next purchase) by email.

Ten years or more ago, my local Health and Leisure Centre had a "free swimming session" for over 55's for an hour, Friday afternoons. That has long since been cancelled, and the Centre is now in the process of being privatised, which will inevitably mean prices and memberships being increased and staff being sacked.

For those of us up north I spotted an advert from train company transpennine express today saying their discount scheme for over 55s was back. Not sure of t&c but might be worth a look if you're over 55.

I know this is the O50s, but once you're over 60 you can get join Boots More Treats for Over 60s. You'll get 10 points for every £1 you spend (compared to four points per £1 for regular cardholders).

(A Boots assistant asked me a few years ago, and uodated my card straight away - after confirming via my passport)

(In these days of multiple equalities & illegal discriminations, is it legal to offer age based discounts?)

My bus pass will also take me (free of charge) anywhere in Wales by train, during the winter months. Not in summer, though.

Yes Badger. That’s one reason I stopped commuting to London. ;)
