Go tonight, Scribbs, you can change your mind if it looks wrong.

Sushi.
I used to be terrified of OW.

Did my 1/2 Ironman at Bala (Llyn Tegid) and hated it.

Today I was totally bemused that I used to feel like that.

My dad lived near there Sushi and always said there were some dangerous currents in Llyn Tegid, I suppose you have to know where is safe?

Oooh. Never heard that.

It’s a lake so not sure where strong currants would come from.

The wind always seems to blow down the lake towards Bala (or is that up the lake) which can make it hard work.

I stuck to the shoreline today as own my own.

Plenty of bystanders pointing and laughing at the ‘crazy woman’ though.

I used to be convinced Nessie's Welsh cousin lived there. 🤣

First OW swim of the year.

(Not that I am a regular by any means! Swam twice last summer...)

It was cold. At each stage I thought 'thats enough' but eventually made it all the way in and swam. Hurrah!
Dry clothes, cup of tea and a solid 20-30 min walk in the sunshine back to the car and no problems.

I did borrow my friends neoprene gloves but other than that it was shorts and bikini-top.
If I decide to continue, I might invest in some gloves as they made a huge difference.

Very pleased with myself to be honest.

Thanks! It's something I want to get into, not massive tri stuff, but just dipping here and there. I want to have the confidence to know how to overcome that first OMG it's freezing and be able to paddle about a bit.
I have two friends who swim all year so I can tag along with them which feels much safer.

Got my neoprene hood thingy. So do I wear a swimming hat with it? Under or over? It's orange, so I don't need to for visibility. It also feels a bit like it wants to come off, but the next size up was sold out.

Up to you with the neoprene hood Linds. You might find a swim hat adds a bit more warmth and keeps the water out a bit better. Also it might stop it feeling like it's coming off.

I wear mine over the top of my neoprene hood, but my hood is black, so a Fetch cap helps improve visibility.

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
