27.3°C in my local lake yesterday evening. There weren't even any odd cold patches that you sometimes get, it was universally warm right around the lap. Mad! (but in a good way)

I binned the idea of a lake swim this morning. The lido is less than two miles from my house and as the schoolkids and families tend not to arrive until late morning, not too busy. I know it's not open water swimming, but it *is* open air swimming :-)

Are the lakes other Fetchies are swimming in as clear as usual? I understand the lake I usually swim in in still murky due to a combination of lack of rain and excessive tree pollen :-( Normally it's very clear.

Mine looks the same, LD. It does have a lot of plant debris on the surface though.

My lake is getting quite weedy. The council restrict swimming in it to organised sessions which finish in 2 weeks' time.

I'm hoping to get a couple of sea swims in after that. Very tempted to try a skins sea swim if the hot temperatures continue (North Sea)

Yep, I hadn't really thought about it but yes my local lake is quite murky at the moment. They do a good job of keeping it relatively weed-free (it's in their interest to keep people coming back though, being a commercial lake).

I wonder whether they treat it in some way, I heard a rumour that they dye the water to stop light getting through to the bottom and discourage the weed from growing, but I don't know whether that's true or not. It's a big lake, you'd need a lot of dye!

Apparently they dye Box End with green dye for that reason (weed control). Not sure it's working. :-)

Doesn't seem to be working but at least we haven't turned into Incredible Hulk look-a-likes (although B would think that was the best thing ever!)

There didn't seem to be a thread devoted to open water swimming, so I thought I'd start one.
