Gosh, ferret. Heron Lake is as clear as ever and the pollen that was in it early in the season has gone. I've heard that something is put in Denham to control weeds. I can't recommend Heron highly enough if you are close by. It's clean and friendly and has good facilities. |

The Scribbler
Bit of a shock last night as we were walking along to the next bay from where I live. I'd noticed the waves were up and a man with a dog came running along the front with his dog. He shouted something and handed his dog over to my husband then jumped over the railings and ran to the beach. By this time we'd spotted two girls caught in a rip and shouting for help. The man was in the sea and swimming towards them as other people grabbed a life buoy and a lady rang the coastguard. Thankfully everyone was okay, but the man who jumped in the sea lost his glasses and will most likely have to replace his car key fob. Girls were only young and most likely just scared themselves.

Oh wow I'm so glad that had a happy ending - so often you hear that the rescuer is the one who doesn't survive

I know. I remember that advice is to avoid getting in the water to aid a rescue if possible, but it did cause me to wonder what I would have done if I had been there a few minutes earlier. The man was a local and a strong, confident swimmer. He obviously knew the water in that areas (as I do). I suspect he may have been a surfer.

makes you think. I’m not a strong enough swimmer, without prescription goggles & tow-float would just add to the problem - mobile phones are very useful. So are surfers

I may have just signed up for a 2k swim in Roermond in August. It's for charidee, as well, so in theory I should now start raising funds. I will likely just donate the required amount myself, rather than trying ti guilt trip friends and family into paying for me to do a thing I want to do for my own enjoyment by telling them it's for a good cause. |

Should anyone feel inspired to give money to charity (I'm not even entirely sure what the charity is... It may be brain tumor related. Presumably treatment of, rather than pro) to enable said swimming, here's a linky roermondcityswim.nl
