Thanks folks.

Having read the rules it seems that you are able to take it slowly and have a rest (on your back which I am ok doing) also they say that they can usually accommodate a change of distance.

So what I think i’ll do is sign up for the mile and change it down the road if I don’t think i’m confident enough in open water/able.

Sounds like a plan right? 😄
