My third open water swim today at Mooloolaba Spit (in QLD, Australia) and I have been amazed at the progress in just a week. Last Thursday I swam a kilometer in just under 30 minutes so almost 3 mins per 100m. Today I swam 1.5km in just over 30 minutes. This is faster than any of my pool swims so far - I have been going at about 38 mins for 1.5km in the pool. The conditions were almost perfect and it was my first swim in tight swimming shorts rather than baggy ones (which my swim partner point out had pockets which were probably slowing me down.)

Well swum, great progress luck to you, guessing you’re looking at triathloning. However, I’ve turned green with envy, what a lovely place to swim just for fun.

Not sure about triathlon but I have enjoyed my intro to open water swimming. I have signed up for the 2.5km swim at the Mooloolaba Beach Festival in Feb. I was thinking it would take at least an hour but I should probably be more ambitious. My mate reckons 45 mins is doable.

If that’s as fun as Byron Bay Classic, you’ll have a great time & be helped shoreward by swell. Sighting very important, I’m useless.

(Unless the weather is just wrong with choppy sea - like the last time I did it 😂)
Do please keep posting progress!

Has anyone been swimming with the company Swimtrek before? I am hoping to do their introduction to Open Water swimming next Autumn in Mallorca (to try and get more confidence - i'm still a bit of a scaredy cat in the sea!) I just wondered if anyone had used them?

I've not used them Jambono but it sound a great idea. I'm also not v. good in the sea so I'm hoping to get some practice in 2018 and enter a small sea race.

Your location for swimming sounds amazing, njosmith!

Another good swim yesterday at Mooloolaba Spit. Now upto 2km in 43 minutes. I swam into someone else swimming in the other direction for the first time, though apparently it wasn't my fault. It is a popular spot because it is very sheltered. There was quite a bit of swell compared with my other swims which slowed me down a little.
