if you didn’t have a cold I’m sure you would have! I know my joints would like an icy dip but even that doesn’t get me in. I paddled this afternoon, in wellies 😂 |

The event I have been training for is this morning but has had to be moved due to the cyclone which hit Tonga recently causing large swell. Alex heads (where the swim was due to start) has been closed. So most events have been moved down to the spit where I have done almost all of my open water swimming so far. I was looking forward to a different spot to swim but considering the damage caused elsewhere by this cyclone I consider my self very lucky.

Made it round in 51.12, bit slower than I would have liked but the conditions were tough. I was a bit naive at the start and went out with the pack. Think it would have been more pleasant if I had had the patience to wait just a few seconds. The pack drove me on for the first 200m and I was absolutely exhausted by the first buoy. The next 500m I was just trying to regain my composure and breathing. I did wonder if I would finish after 300,400m. Sighting was a real problem as the swell was bigger than the buoys. But it is done and I think I'll be better next time.

Well done, njosmith Goodness, you are brave going with the pack! Well done on getting round in what sounds like a tough day. You'll have learned loads from the race and the next one should be a bit easier |
