Is there room for a vest or T-shirt under your wetsuit? I've found that keeps me warmer in cold water. Although, tbh I don't think I've ever been in water that cold! Good luck!!!

Thin wool top? But need to experiment in case it rubs on a long swim, oh not sure now, maybe tritop is better. Wool works for winter windsurfing but swimming's so repetitive

Well I ended up wearing a fairly tight running (technical material) top under my wetsuit - and my body was actually toasty warm. The (blue seventy) swim socks and gloves were brilliant too - and I never really noticed the cold after the initial shock of the icy face plunge wore off! There was a really strong current too which made it a lot of fun - so I did 7km in 1:13 !!! Hahahahaha - that's 58s/100yds - I usually do double that!
Fab event if any of you are that way inclined - entry opens Feb again I presume - and sold out in days this year (Wild Wye River Swim).

Well done Capricorn! Glad the base layer under the wetsuit helped.

Well swum, that's a brilliant speedy 7k & brave, I don't think it would be very clear, as well as the chill.

I met a swimmer I hadn’t seen before at the pool yesterday who was kind enough to show me, & sign me in to, changing facilities I didn’t know about, right on the beach. We had a lovely swim, I’ll join up.

Ooh that sounds excellent Ferret! There were quite a few people in the sea in E Devon yesterday, most in wetsuits but there were still several skins. I really *must* take my stuff down next weekend, the weather forecast is 'mild' so the water's probably still warm enough for me to have a dip.
