Hugs GF. I was started on HRT last year (but I've been told to take progesterone every day but at that stage I had already had 5months without any periods). I was sent for a DEXA scan (but I also have rheumatoid arthritis) and was advised it was a good idea to take a daily 10µg vitamin D tablet. I also have a reasonable about of calcium in my diet [having had a look at your profile I think we are a similar age]

Is that something that’s done privately? Unfortunately, my GP practice really doesn’t function properly, but that’s because there’s too many people in the town for the amount of practices. You can’t see anyone, it’s really bad but the only solution is to move, changing practice locally wouldn’t even help. I also have no private healthcare for the next 12 months which isn’t ideal, I’ve been able to rely on that to virtually see a GP. (Though the private ones wouldn’t discuss menopause) |

Sorry that was an x post! Jen I’m 43. No periods in a couple years but I had an endometrial ablation to stop them as the ocean would bleed out of me. I should probably take vit D, I’ll start that |

I was already on Desogestrel as my contraceptive pill when I started on Oestrogel but was told I would need to double up on the pill for the progesterone. This really hasn't been working for me (low mood, weight gain, etc) so I'm getting a coil fitted tomorrow morning. It's the first time I've had one, so a bit worried about getting it put in..

IW, if you mean the actual experience of it being put in, I am super sensitive to anything ‘down there’ everything is so painful, but even I coped with getting that put in ok, it really wasn’t that bad honestly. Similar to a smear test for me really. I mean you don’t want it done every day or anything, but I expected far worse!

Take some paracetamol about an hour before hand. I had some cramping for a few days and bloating but it settled down quite quickly. My first one was as part of my HRT because I’d tried everything else and was bleeding heavy. That took 3-6 months to settle down then had none at all for the remainder of the 5 years. For me it was a life saver. |

Hellen, generally speaking the progesterone is supposed to be two weeks on two weeks off for those still having periods and every day for those post menopause.

I had my appointment with the Dr this morning. Since booking it all my symptoms went away in a cyclical nature, making me more sure they were peri meno symptoms. We've decided to move from 50 evrol sequi patches to 75 estrogen patches and progesterone tablets. Slightly worrying seeing the issues that GymFreak is reporting on this regime, but hopefully I won't have the same issues. The symptoms occurred last time in my second week with progesterone and first week with just estrogen. As I still have the combined estrogen and progesterone patches left from my current prescription I need to decide, do I complete the cycle with this prescription, then move to the new prescription in 2 week? Although in 2 weeks - which is right when the symptoms might kick in again - I'll be away for a long weekend with hubby, so maybe I should just start on the new prescription right now with the 2 weeks of progesterone starting today... |
