Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Let's talk about inaugural parkruns after they've happened.

"tourists aren't interested in what it's called" - that's quite a generalisation! From what I have seen the first letter of the name preoccupies many a tourist!

Fair point - it wasn't clearly worded.

I meant it won't matter whether it's worded as the town name or after an obscure park - it won't make a difference whether they come or not as they'll use the maps to find ones in areas they want.

However if one is put on at Upnor Castle or in Zouch or Zeale you can guarantee a tourist influx :)

Aha! Under the new naming policy then, if Grangemouth (near Falkirk) were ever to have a parkrun, it might become quite the tourist hotspot. I've mapped out potential routes in the two available parks. Inchyra Park would be flat squares and, tbh, remarkably dull and drab.

The other one, however fetcheveryone.com/routes-view.php?id=1747715 :-)

When I thought I'd identified a location in Grimsby, chatting to the ambassador and he was most concerned about what the name will be. I believe that if I find a venue, there will only ever be one possible venue in Grimsby (just like there's only one place parkrun could possibly have been in Cleethorpes), so I would have wanted to call it Grimsby parkrun. However, it would apparently have to have been named Bradley Football Development Centre parkrun, after the venue.

Sadly, I've not been able to secure land use for that one.

Bradley Pitches parkrun, I think would have been tolerable, to be fair.

Not going to happen. Now looking at Freshney Parkway parkrun instead...

I’ll be there HellsBells. I’ll be wearing a black running top with “Beachy Head Marathon” & a picture of the famous lighthouse on the front. Come up & tap me on the shoulder if you spot me.

I’ll even show you how to sign your name using B.S.L.

We now have a start date, I'm forever going to call our parkrun "curly wurly parkrun" despite the official name. It'll make sense when you see the location and the course map

Now keeping an eye on all the FB groups to see which plum outs us first

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
