New Earswick inaugural has been postponed again - given the mini-heatwave forecast for next week they'll hopefully by 4th time lucky on 21 April!

You can probably argue this either way, and it may be co-incidental, but I think the Little Stoke affair happened at the time of /caused the change in parkrun from being a bit of secret amongst runners to a mainstream everyone's heard about it thing.

Possibly the publicity in mainstream press contributed to it becoming well known.

JJJ I wasn't a runner but discovered parkrun - In 2009. It couldn't have been that much of a secret for me to have stumbled across it.

You are right in that the Little Stoke affair brought parkrun into the media spotlight but even then a lot of people I know ( non runners ) just referred to the news as being about 'that thing I do at the weekend', so most people I connect with already knew about it and still ask if I will be doing the fun run on Saturday.

To be fair, fun run isn't too bad a term. Its a run, it should be fun!

There may be an inaugural parkrun happening near you. Best to check with the local parkrun volunteers to see if they want you to know about it or not.

Otherwise there are plenty of already established parkruns to go to in the UK and abroad, see: parkrun.org.uk
