Fort William inaugural overrun by tourists today :-o. Must have been at least 20 from the 79 finishers. Felixstowe had 443 - don't know if a soft launch had specifically been asked for. At a rough count, around 120 debutants, 50 on 2-5 runs and over 60 on 100 or more there (which, you'll note, was nearly the entire number of finishers at FW). |

Probably about half and half at Fort William. Though some of the tourists (like at Aviemore) were visitors to the area who sought out a parkrun rather than parkrun tourists who visited just for the run. Excellent, testing, one lap course!

Fizz :-)
Quite a few of those on 100 plus were from Felixstowe RRC, though. (Felixstowe RRC members made up 66 of the total turnout) |

Mention of a Parkrun in Dawlish, Devon. dawlishnewspapers.co.uk Personally I think this part of Teignbridge needs it, but need to consider if the Teignmouth one is still happening. I can understand the negativity from the councillors as the park was specifically set up to discourage dog walkers in particular from using Dawlish Warren, but can't help feel that this is only one hour a week and the park could really use some publicity to highlight the issue. |

What a very odd notion that the Country Park should only be for dog walkers. On the satellite view it is literally all fields, so it must be very new? A lap of the perimeter paths (from OSM) is around 2.4 km, so fits a parkrun pretty well. Gosh, there are a LOT of caravans down that way. Scottish news is of another three approaching (not counting the far north launches): two previously mentioned and a dark horse (which, I'm wondering, might have a definite connection). |

Those councillors sound either ridiculous or woefully ignorant about what parkrun actually entails. They seem to think that there'll be hordes of runners swarming all over the country park for hours, rather than a few hundred, tops, sticking to a pre-determined route for less than an hour once a week. Or, God forbid, twice a week if they had a junior parkrun too I often wonder, is it a prerequisite of being a councillor that you have to have a very narrow mind. |

It's a brand new park. It's very much a one off, the impact that dog walkers can have on the wildlife at Dawlish Warren is considerable. Millions of pounds of developer money have been spent trying to encourage walkers and dog walkers off of here, it's such a sensitive environment. I think the caravans were encouraged at a time when the impact on birds and rare plants was not clearly understood.

I imagine Felixstowe had a big contingent from Ipswich and Kesgrave - I think Kesgrave has been the parkrun many Felixstowe runners would do until this one opened. I intend to go as it is relatively local but not for a few weeks when I can get an idea of numbers....I've decided I don't really want to do a parkrun with more than 200 people in it - which is ruling out a few at the moment locally. I need to go back to the place that I'd enquired about starting one at soon to see if they would consider it six months further down the line since my first enquiry. |
