Fetch only those with the same opin
Apologies....i thought my account was suspended, maybe based on pre conceived ideas. Happily admit it was probably a password error on my behalf rather than an attempt to create 2 accounts. I appreciate this account not being closed down even though the troll accusations are out in full force!

Having only been to two inaugurals - one at Inverness when it was the only one for over 100 miles.
The second one was Elgin as ED - and the thought of people travelling from all over to descend on our new team filled us with dread.

I have been to 1 and would certainly go to another if convenient. I would never travel for more than 30 minutes to get to any inaugral parkrun but would certainly go to one if one was set up within that radius. I am more interested in a podium finish 😂😂😂

My only hope of that is at tiny parkruns.
Welcome to Fetch.

Ditto....ive peaked at a 5th when there were only 40. Usually around the 100th Mark at my 'home run. Thanks Fizz...your restoring my faith and take your point. Maybe fetch will restore my 2nd account 🤞

Going to inaugurals used to be great, back when it was not (as it is now in some cases) a problem. I write as one involved with starting up Scotland's fourth parkrun and we were amazed and delighted that so many people attended, many of whom we knew from the three existing runs. Parkrun was still pretty small back then and people coming were welcomed, not feared. So, I realise a lot has changed since then, but that's why, back then, going to inaugurals was seen as a good thing.
(And going to all in an area, I think that's pretty good. And as volunteering is not no how in any way whatsoever to be pressed upon people, any sniffy remark that people collecting (non-inaugural) parkruns should be volunteering instead will, I'm sure, result on a knock on the door for any RD suggesting that ;-).)

My Christmas gift to myself today is to stop watching this thread.

Runner Runner/Blade Runner. This forum topic is an odd one as its more outward facing than some of the others being referenced regularly on the parkrun FB sites. Whilst this obviously brings in new posters it also brings in quite a few of the special types off Facebook who post incessantly about Loughborough or DORCHESTER or whatever. There was one recent new poster who came into claim that Thornbury inaugural was cancelled. If Fetch becomes a place for backdoor bragging about going touristing through inane questions about shoe types required then it will be a poorer place.
No-one is going to stop anyone going to inaugural events. However, there are a large number of RD's and ED's on this site and we understand some of the issues that a new core team will experience. Personally as someone who has attended a number of different events, going to an established parkrun is far better as the community has grown organically rather than the crowd at an inaugural.

I'm an RD and I think people should volunteer at least once for every 10 runs. I've never told anyone face to face to do that or nagged anyone but I think they should.

If anyone read my blog post last weekend they might see why a brand new core team might not want to be inundated on the inaugural. Things go awry at times, with the best will in the world, and on your first event you might not be totally sure what to do to put things right. Obviously you do want *some* people, but huge numbers on your first as a core team could be daunting. Let them settle in before visiting!
