Well done DQ :)

I’d also love to know what my 1rm is, N is pretty conservative when he gives me loads for new things - and occasionally surprised by what I do, or conversely don’t, find quite easy.

Well done, DQ!

I got up to 45kg but have had a few weeks off so will start again at a lower weight next week.

Congrats DQ 😀

I’ve had a real lesson. I’ve not lifted properly for about 2 years as my focus was on getting half marathon fit, lifting to support running was my main aim. I knew things had deteriorated, I didn’t realise by how much until yesterday. I couldn’t get to 10 reps on weights I used to warm up with!
It’s time to make offerings at the alter of Sven Stensgaard to get some strength back.

I usually just do squats with kettlebell but attempted one with the bar yesterday but couldn't get enough rotation in my shoulders to perform the exercise. Hadn't tried this in a while as I knew this was a problem with me but I certainly have a lot more range of movement in that area than when I first started at the gym so all good. 👍

I'm not a fan of squats with a kettlebell - I find it difficult to hold, tits get in the way a bit. At the moment I'm mostly doing suitcase squats with 2x12.5k dumbells.

The gym was nearly empty when I got there this morning so I videoed myself using the Smith machine for deadlift, Romanian deadlift and back squat. I think I'm doing them ok so will be interested to see what my PT says.
I'm still getting used to using the barbell for back squats so am increasing weight gradually - I got up to 24kg today.
Romanian deadlifts felt a lot smoother today and I could lift much better than last week so increased to 36.5kg
Deadlifts I only do 3 of each, started at 49kg, then 54kg (my previous PB) then 56.5kg.

I might book a session with the gym instructor to show me how to set up and use the other barbells; then I'll be able to add in glute bridges and try some proper deadlifting and squats.

The leg press had been causing me some problems, as I couldn't increase from 44kg to the next weight (51kg) as I couldn't shift the plate with the extra weight. This week, I managed to do it. It was VERY satisfying :)

Had a slightly awkward moment in the gym this morning when my old PT (who left coaching to become a fireman) came into the gym at the tail end of my session with my new coach! He commented on there being a decent weight on the bar (deadlifts at 125kg) and we had to tell him that this was after a double at 145kg and that I'd pulled singles at 150kg a few times this year!
