I went to the gym early today and a girl was working on pull ups, she's a long way off yet, but using the machine that you kneel on and then gradually trying to reduce her weight off the kneeling pad.

I went onto Aldi then, nice selection of miscellaneous fitness stuff on offer, bought some weight training gloves £4.99.

I've downloaded a training progression plan for doing pull ups. I'll have to head across to the children's park early in the mornings to practice, when we get home. I daren't suggest putting the pull up bar back on the newly painted doorframe...

Pix - I use that machine, for pull downs and triceps dips. I quite like it but it's confusing about the weights, it's easier on the heavy weights and harder when the weight is light, so different to all the other machines. I remember when I started at the gym and the instructor said start with slightly less than my own bodyweight as the weight, then as I improve to lighten the weight.

I've opted for this one, EvilPixie, because there are more build up stages than most of the others I've looked at. I have very little upper body strength and am a long way off doing a pull up. I haven't tried "hanging" for a while so might be better at that than I was 18 months ago on my last attempt!

I've just started that program GM. It looks highly doable (at least at the start!)

That's what attracted me to it, TeeBee :) I'm not sure 9 weeks will be long enough to get to doing a full pull up, but progress towards it can be made in that time.

Dangling for a couple of seconds is a good start :)

And also remembering that for those of us who aren't very young or very male it takes a long time to develop the various structures and movements involved in doing a pull up.

... a weights wire for women.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.

Here's a strength standards for women thing Duracel found for us
