Groundhog
I mentioned to my mum at Christmas that if she wanted a knitting challenge then a fisherman's sweater (Guernsey/Gansey) in a Whitby pattern would be my favourite. It's a bit complicated but she wanted to take on the challenge. I'm not at all familiar with knitting, but it looks really hard. Anyway I bought a kit of all the wool, needles and detailed instructions and she has made a start from the bottom up. The whole sweater is knitted in one go with no seams, which surprised me. Here's a link to Flamborough Marine. flamboroughmanor.co.uk

Here's Daniel Day Lewis thinking how handsome I'll look in my new gansey.
He's wearing a jumper hand knitted by Flamborough Marine to a pattern that they researched for him based on an old photo of a fisherman.

My brilliant upstairs neighbour knitted me a Gansey from that very site, Ground HogFather She claimed it was something to do during lockdowns but she how fabulously generous.

I posted here at the time ... but am reporting in to say I have been LIVING in it this cold winter. So cosy.

Here it is last year (had just done a track session wearing it)

Those ganseys are magnificent. I made a gansey type jumper last year, but it was a lazy imitation rather than a proper gansey.

are these difficult or just time consuming?

Mostly time consuming, and as I recall they're knitted at a tight gauge to make them more weather resistant than ordinary jumpers so knitting them is quite hard on your hands and wrists.

More time consuming - keeping track of where you are in the pattern...and not messing it up! ;)
