I didn't bother with buttonholes, sewed poppers instead with the buttons on top as decoration. The size 3-4 took 3 evenings total knitting with chunky wool and big needles and the 3 balls of recommended Bernat 100% acrylic were less than 10 quid

I think the yarn is better suited to knitting though. Now I just need to get round for another visit to see if my great nephew likes it!! ravelry.com
