I made some self-striping socks a couple of years ago. They came out very well.

I'm quite at peace with all the yarn staying under my roof until I knit it up. I've got some semi-solid colours and they're going nowhere. I did make a resolution to respond to requests from people looking for particular Wollmeise colours or bases if I had them, and have had to grit my teeth and let go of a few skeins I wouldn't have destashed voluntarily. But it's only string and I have more than enough to last me for a lifetime.

I'm approaching the end of my current piece and I'm going to have to block it properly, I think, rather than just ironing it. I've never done that before. How can I do it without special equipment?

I just soak mine in wool wash and then pin it out and leave to dry. I use foam mats to pin on, but anything will do - I've been known to use a thick towel on the dining table

Drell, I just pin mine out on top of some towels on the floor-the pins go through to the carpet to hold tight. You can completely wet in a bowl of water then pin out, or pin out dry and spray thoroughly if you have a decent spray bottle. It can be a bit easier to spray if it's large or heavy and difficult to handle when wet.

v-rap I probably could buy half of that but will resist. Love the laughing yaffle yarns - especially love the 2 balls of what looks like funky self stripping sock yarn!!

Off to Scotland in July - 1 night over in Moffat then 6 near Fort William return again with a night in Moffat. Would it be a huge detour to yours?!
