Are you doing any easy paced rowing, Mac? I'm at 28 and above when I'm doing top end stuff or 2km tests.

Today was meant to be easy paced. It's the first time I can remember going slow enough to do 5k. I'm an idiot on a rowing machine

I tried a bit of 18 in my cool down today, it was ok. Think my HR was up a little. Not as high as it was at the end of my hard 5k though. First 3k was pretty comfortable averaging 3:39, no feelings of I can’t maintain this, so picked it up for the last 2k. With a 3:36 & 3:31. 18:07 for the 5k and a finishing HR of 191 😄.

Would have gone for a run today but the weather is foul so it was the erg instead. Time for a RowAlong "top tier" workout and the random selection from the playlist threw up 10 x 100 metres eyeballs-out max effort with 1 minute rests.

I guess the aim is to see how fast you can go without having to sustain the pace, can't see any benefit otherwise and I'm not a fan of these short fast and furious sessions. But I did get to see 1:50 on my PM, which doesn't often happen. Nothing doing for 1:4x though :-(

As for spm, above 30 and I begin to lose it and suffer from chain slap so I kept it there and concentrated on technique while giving it the beans. It's done but a bit meh overall tbh.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, can't just stick with the stuff we like!

First time ever pacing an effort properly this morning. 20.11 for 5k

Nice. I’ve had sub 20 as a rowing goal. Closest I’ve got is 20:28

Nice one Muttley, 100m sounds like madness!

12k today, I find these longer straight through rows a bit boring and uncomfortable on the backside. I broke it up a bit today with what I think you experts call a ladder, it helped a bit but I much prefer the hard sessions.

Last 14 days I've done 128,000 metres, which is roughly 50% of my lifetime rowing.

:-)

Unless going for a specific distance marker most people do longer sessions with breaks e.g. 3x4k, 3x5k, 3x6k with 90s rest. You get a chance to stretch, towel down, etc. You're still getting the endurance benefit without killing yourself.

Foppotee …. ❤️ 191 !!!

Good lord ! Last time I managed a HR that high would have been 30 years ago on a track !

Low rate stuff chasing some high wattage leaves me wrecked and seriously aching all over but you do reap some great benefit over time
