Total of just over 6000m done today - furthest to date. A warm up followed by a 5000 - quicker than expected.

I take it your hands toughen up as they get used to it? A few calluses appearing now 😀

Yep, you'll find that if you do a lot of this you'll get rowers' hands.

Actually here's a thing: Does having callouses in different places on your right and left hand mean I've got work to do on evening out my stroke?

I did a 2km warm up, 6km at tempo (2:05ish) and 2km warm down this morning. It was -4c in the shed when I started! I kept my hat on again.

I was wondering that earlier Nellers, I've got a couple on my left hand but none on my right, but I think my left arm bends a split second before my right, so I'm probably unbalanced (I've always been lopsided when I run).

Nice training guys, 6k for me too and day 1 of the April Fools Challenge complete 👍

Greetings and welcome to the newbies ...

Ah yes, calluses. I have huge ones on my otherwise soft and pink office worker's hands. When they get too ridged I trim them down with nail clippers. You might get a period of blisters at first but the hands will harden up, you'll see. Just be careful to deal with any burst blisters.

About 13,000 metres done this morning, just for mileage. Old-time ska in the headphones, brain in neutral, back and forth, back and forth ... the time passed enjoyably enough.

Hello, I've got a mate who wants to buy a rowing machine.

What's the advice on buying an entry level one? And is there a zwift for rowing?

Thanks:)

Hi BC. Hope you and your family are keeping safe and well.

My advice for buying a rowing machine would be that if you're going second hand get a Concept2. They're so well designed and built that most of the machines that have ever been made are still going. They need very little maintenance and they have (as far as I can see) the widest range of online apps etc available.

The downside is that they are pricey initially (new they're over £1k) but the upside is that usually there are plenty on the second hand market. Current circumstances have made them a bit more in demand and so more expensive though.

If your friend doesn't want a concept2 then there are some very good alternatives. Matrix make a very good machine and Water-rower have a good reputation too.

There isn't really a Zwift for rowing (yet). There are online challenges and leagues where you can upload Concept2 times for different distances or sessions and see where you rank (Row'd'royalty and Concept2 themselves do a variety). There is an app called Ergworld which is moving closer to a Zwift-type experience but the rowing world isn't there yet. The current situation is quite an incentive, though, so people are working on it and there is a rumour that Zwift are looking at it themselves too, although I've not seen anything official.

wamr up, C2CTC April and warm down for me last night.

C2CTC is OK this month - 3x1721m/4:00r
Some tenuous link to the first Prime Minister of Britain on 3/4/1721

Still, managed an average 1:50.3/500m pace and it put me in 5th place on the overall leader board. There were only 11 entries at the time, but I took a screen shot anyway.

You can only thrash the opposition that turn up at the time, sinj :-)

BC - if your friend is serious about rowing, then basically what Nellers said. Concept2's are bombproof and good value at £860 new - if you plan to use it. Waterrowers are well spoken of and seem more consumer-oriented but not having one, I can only speculate. C2s hold their value better second-hand, and not just during global pandemics. Unfortunately, at the mo they're out of stock.

There's also a prog called RowPro, which includes online rowing, for C2s. I use this but not for the online stuff, just for myself.

I bought my C2 new 13 years ago and it's still going as good as new.

You're lagging behind on the distance table, Nellers. Come on man, stop slacking and get to it!
