How do you force a Garmin to Bluetooth sync? I had a FR35 which only had that, and worked fine. I now have a FR245 Music which should do either, but generally will only WiFi sync (or sometimes not sync). Great when it works (sometimes I'm not even in the door and it's synced), pita when it doesn't.

I was on holiday last week, and out of the, er, blue, it Bluetooth synced when WiFi didn't catch. Great! But I don't know why and I can't replicate it.

Do you have sync in the Controls menu (hold down light button)? If not, add it and you can force sync. Some models let you change the default sync method from there, some will always go with WiFi if it's available. You can also put a WiFi on/off control in there.

Bluetooth can be a bit moody, sometimes restarting the phone or toggling Bluetooth off and on and restarting the app in between can help.

On most recent models wifi has always been the default. You can turn on/off the wifi / BT so it only has the one option. Or if you force the sync from the app it will do it over BT.

As you have the Music, it's worth remembering it will only synch tunes over wifi.

It was a faulty Index S2, bought a new one directly from Garmin.
Still very buggy to set up though.
They have not been very successful with that scale :)

I got an S2 after the wifi on my last Withings scales broke. I agree, itโ€™s not the best but it does weigh you and upload to Garmin Connect which is pretty much all I need.

Yes it sure does. The thing i meant, is that Garmin haven't been very successful in the way they managed to make it simple to connect it to a normal network. Or update it to latest FW.
I understand why people plastered the internet with stories about this issue :)

Well i got it going eventually, and now i have a fancy scale that talks with garmin. :)

To revive a discussion from last week - The "split summary" at the top of each training log entry, and how it behaves with Garmin workouts and auto-laps.

Having turned OFF autolaps on my Garmin, today's workout behaved as desired in Fetch - i.e. the text summary at the top of the training entry has 1 lap for the warmup, one lap for the MP effort of 5 miles and 1 lap for the cooldown.

Of course, Fetch will still do 1 mile splits of the entire file because, well, it does that.

So: if you want your summary to report the splits as per the workout, turn off autolaps on your device. The downside being, of course, that you lose the in-workout prompts of how you're doing for individual miles (or whatever distance) within the larger workout.

Not ideal, but there's a choice.

You can leave the autolaps in the sense that if the interval is longer than a mile / km you will obviously get both the autolap mile and then the mile sub-section too. Though obviously what you lose there is the cumulative for the (say) 1.27 mile section. Sometimes I will go to the bother of adding the sections up and calculating an average pace over them all, which obviously you don't need to do if you just have it as a single "lap".

e.g.
Warm up - 1.45m
1) 1mi - 8:14(8:14/mi) 121/129bpm [996b/mi] 92cal 7.29/8.1mph
2) 0.45mi - 3:42(8:10/mi) 130/138bpm [1061b/mi] 46cal 7.35/8.29mph

MP session, continuous - 3.01m
3) 1mi - 7:19(7:19/mi) 150/156bpm [1098b/mi] 109cal 8.2/9.06mph
4) 1mi - 7:20(7:20/mi) 152/156bpm [1114b/mi] 110cal 8.18/9.04mph
5) 1mi - 7:13(7:13/mi) 152/156bpm [1097b/mi] 109cal 8.31/9.16mph
6) 0.01mi - 3(7:31/mi) 153/153bpm [1151b/mi] 7.97/8.39mph
Easy - 0.51m
7) 0.51mi - 4:20(8:32/mi) 146/153bpm [1247b/mi] 61cal 7.03/8.6mph
MP session, continuous - 2.01m
8) 1mi - 7:28(7:28/mi) 155/159bpm [1157b/mi] 115cal 8.04/9.02mph
9) 1mi - 7:14(7:14/mi) 153/157bpm [1106b/mi] 108cal 8.3/9.27mph
10) 0.01mi - 4(7:42/mi) 154/154bpm [1186b/mi] 7.79/8.75mph
Easy - 0.54m
11) 0.54mi - 4:48(8:51/mi) 140/154bpm [1238b/mi] 50cal 6.78/8.79mph

My GPS seems to be having an issue. I'm assuming the file that logs satellite locations isn't updating hence the initial lock takes longer before becoming pretty unreliable. Easily sorted but I don't want to have to keep deleting RemoteSW to fix.

Will be interesting if this is on the wrist of the first person to break 2h in an official race!

twitter.com

I always thought of that brand as being "AliExpress"-style, cheap as chips without much real kudos. That sponsorship does change my thinking!
