Nelly it depends what you mean by 'raw data'. GPX files are just XML files, which are just text files, to if you really want the raw data you can use any XML viewer/editor or text editor. From there you can hand crank it into excel. There are also a number of free* online GPX to CSV tools that will do the heavy lifting for you. *I'm sure they will bombard you with adverts and sell the info linking you with the locations in the GPX file |

Question for you garmin fans who use maps… does using map impact on battery life? Doing an ultra at the weekend and I’ve downloaded the map to watch, not really necessary as it’s fully waymarked but hubby has said it helps him as he can not only see where I am on live track but where I’ll be heading too next. I will have charger with me but curious as to whether it impacts the battery. Chars. |

Yes, it will use more battery, how much will depend how you use it. If you have the map screen as your main screen, then as you move it is constantly redrawing the screen, so this uses more battery than if you have another data screen as your main screen most of the time. Even on the map screen, depending on if you have North Up or Track Up will affect the battery - it has to re-draw the screen less with North Up, whereas with Track Up everytime you change direction it has to re-draw the screen. Most people use Track Up as it's more logical that the screen shows what's ahead. With another data screen as main screen then it will flash up a warning of a junction and which direction to take, as you approach a junction - so that is using more battery than if you are not following a route |

I would have my normal screen on it is helpful for my support crew to see the route I’m aiming for so they can find me easier. Thanks for reply.

It sounds like you're actually talking about having live track on, not the mapping or navigation? You don't need the maps or the even the route for that to work. However Live Track also has an impact on battery life, as the watch has to have bluetooth enabled and be connected to the phone, and is regularly synch'ing the position with the phone. If you have other metrics running such as steps, calorie counting etc they will also be synch'ed which increases the battery impact further. The first thing I do on an ultra if I need battery life is to disable the connection between the watch and phone. |
