It's known that there can be issues with optical HR on watches. Great that some people have good experiences but it's not at a stage where it universal.

@larkim, I was comparing the way that the forerunner cut the corner on twisty routes while the Fenix does it less

Better GPS on the F7?
I have seen it on the pace for instance. It never trails away around buildings, hills or under trees anymore. With all systems and both Frequency bands activated. This is in comparison to my FR945. its a BIG difference!

KPM you say you wear your watch a bit looser, that’ll affect the OHR. For me, if I tighten it up a notch then it’s very solid.

I never use it systematically.
It has really no use besides altitude training acclimatization.
if you are healthy. Its a metric in the Health snapshot if you do those once in a while too.

Otherwise it drains the battery to much for me.
Could be fun to use for a few nights to get a base line, but otherwise, turned off.

KPM, my Fenix 6X Pro HR sensor is very poor. I have the watch fitted tightly and I have did enough wrists for it, but it is jus very poor. Similar to you, the average HR for a run works out similar, but at any point in time it can be wildly out compared to a chest strap for me. I train to HR, so the sensor is no good for me, although the watch seems accurate for RHR.

Sold my 6s!! Super happy. And very relieved.

I don’t use a HR strap it was the big factor deciding to go Fenix 6 2 years ago. So while I don’t know how accurate it really is I find it consistent enough to think it must at least give me an idea on whether it’s something to take notice of.

Obviously if HR training then having something with more confidence accuracy is understandable

Apparently HR sensor works in different ways for different personen of what i have read.
Maybe because of different skin tone, tattoos, fit and so on.
But in general it works pretty well as far as i know. (no specific watch but over all in the higher tier of garmin watches.)

For training i use HRM PRO just for the definite data gathering and its less prone to potential errors, but im sure that the sensor would work fine as well for most people.
