Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

What mode do you have the sensor set to StuH ? If you mostly care about the altitude then you can set it to assume all barometric pressure changes are due to altitude changes and not weather, should be better on shorter runs. The issue comes that on longer runs if there is any significant change in the weather conditions then you might have some big drift.

The chips are temperature sensitive, contain a thermometer that’s meant to help compensate that but you often see a bit of drift especially on colder days as it cools down when you go outside. If Sam’s suggestion fixes it then that’s probably not the answer and it’s sketchy calibration at the start. I don’t think the Instinct has maps, does it? So it might be calibrating off gps and gradually improving that.

The Instinct doesn't have installed maps as Badger days. You can upload a GPX route file to follow navigation, but it isn't determining ground level from a map, just GPS or barometric altimeter. I didn't know the baro sensor was temperature sensitive, that's interesting. Maybe I should cool my wrist down to outside temperature before use?

Mine always seems quite spot on and I never seem to have those issues. This run started/ended in the same place, and the first mile is basically all up hill as suggested. The flat bits are along the seafront, so close to 0ft, although I wasn’t actually on the beach but on the prom.

Just getting to grips with garmin workouts / training calendar etc. I've got a way to sync Garmin calendar to Office 365 and then to Google Calendar (which is what I use on my phone / at home etc) which is "nice to have", so I thought I might put in the P&D training plan that I'm following into the Garmin calendar having discovered that if I put an entry on there then it automatically prompts me to do that activity when I'm running that day.

I thought that what I'd do would be set up the 5 or 6 "types" of activity as stock items in Garmin connect (e.g. Recovery run, MLR, Long run, etc), drag them onto the individual days and then tweak each one with the specifics necessary (e.g. MLR 12 miles, 13, 14 miles as per the plan), but it seems that if I create a workout that any changes I make to one affects them all.

Am I missing something here? Or do I need to create a "MLR 12", "MLR 13", "MLR 14" as separate workouts? If so I'll probably abandon it as too much effort!

For something like that I might make an open-ended workout of that type and have a note of how many miles on a particular day - though that does mean double entry bookkeeping to keep it straight. It's one of the reasons I don't use the calendar much, and mainly use planned workouts just for interval sessions...

I've just put my 305 with heart rate strap up on ebay. Bye bye old pal.

That's assuming it sells. Phones or entry level garmins are pretty impressive these days.

Well done on still having the box! I'm amazed we trotted around with those on our wrists. I actually found the 201 a bit less clunky because of the different orientation.

Look, you can barely see it on my wrist!

Larkim, a bit like Badger I never got on with the Garmin calendar.

The best way I've found is with Sporttracks which lets you have a set of templates that you can drag onto your calendar, tweak, and then sync to the watch.
