In retrospect I should have sent it back as soon as I had it but the point readings were perfectly reasonable which led me to believe the error was in the software that generates the cumulative value. Eventually a plastic strap binding lug broke (no not the strap - as people always assume that means) and I gave up on it.

Looking back, it's only been the most recent activities that have shown this; wonder if it is heat related? I'll keep an eye out, but I'm well aware of the historic tales of inaccuracy or faults with the barometric altimeters.

My first 5X (I think I'm on my 4th or 5th now) decided I was constantly at exactly 20km - not 19,999, not 20,001 - exactly 20,000. Every time you calibrated it would rapidly drift up to 20k. Garmin support didn't seem to understand why I thought it might be a faulty sensor...

I would remind everyone how amazing Garmin support is - I have had 4 replacements (of 8 different devices, over 13 years), 2 of those were free and 2 of them were refurbs for 50 quid. One of the free replacements was even outside warranty.

These devices get a real hammering, don't they? 22,000 miles in my case over 13 years, salty sweat, banged on rocks, up mountains, drenched in rain, rivers, lochs and seas, 40C plus heat, -20C cold etc I'm amazed they work at all! :-) G

I'm below HappyG on the Garmin league.
Only 1 paid for refurb for me, although delivered to their office to get the replacement asap and 2 'free' replacement straps. One of which for that refurb 205.

And one extended chat over a weekend about a SW upgrade glitch that was all over US internet but not reported to UK support ... resulting in a one off new SW release for me before UK release.

I agree, I've always been very happy with Garmin customer service - mostly for items well out of warranty. Its why I stick with the brand when sometimes others look tempting (like coros / wahoo)

My husband is wearing a free reconditioned replacement forerunner 235 for my old forerunner that went a bit wrong just outside of its guarantee!

Excellent customer service!

I've had a few replacements over the years. Can't fault the support.

It probably also indicates the huge profit margin on the devices!

Well, it differs according to country.
Garmin in my country it just mediocre, and really lack the edge in customer service, and even technical know how.

I have a question about my Forerunner 245. When I press pause, it cycles through some of the data of the workout so far -- distance, pace, time etc -- until I press resume. But I want it to show HR. How to do this?
