You both took part and therefore earnt the badge. (You deserve it more than I do. I saw badges mentioned, which is the only reason I started at all!!) |

@Kanajlo I don't think anyone who runs 45km in a day can be said to have 'done it wrong' You did very well - congratulations!

All those who got badges deserved them.... I really appreciated being part of a bigger collective so the more the merrier irrespective of how many laps.

Sorry to hear you’re injured ITG and a Stirling effort. I just so wanted to be part of it but we were away for our anniversary had I thought about it I could have logged a couple of walks and a run earlier in the day.

I concur with @CumbriAndy about recovery time being longer than I expected. I was pretty much fit for nothing on Sunday. I’m gathering thoughts together for a blog but a couple of comments: I didn’t feel I had a problem with fueling but running makes me hungry so I have a habit of always eating something as soon as I finish a run. So I made the routine - get home, log the time (because I was paranoid about forgetting) then eat something & have a drink. Mostly I ate junk - biscuits, cake, kitkats though I did have some oven chips late in the evening and drank squash or tea. The best thing I did was put on clean, dry socks. It’s a trick I learned when I used to work all-nighters in the theatre. When you’re knackered and footsore it’s just the best feeling ever |

Agree with most on here, I've also blogged a reflection but here's some points. Dry kit (and warm - straight from dryer) is key (the warm bit is nice to have). Took the wet top off straight away and allowed myself to cool down (10 mins) before putting warm fleece on. Changed shorts in later laps too when the sun was out. Gloves and long sleeve top at the beginning and end. Routine. Get in, take top off, sit at PC and check in, reflect on the lap (blog/write it down). Was strict on starting at dead on the hour. Fuel. I felt at times I was eating too much, generally the sweet stuff for the first few hours and then the salty stuff. Basically little and often with no huge meals. Variety. Plotted an alternate route which gave me 4 loops (2 forward/2 reverse). Avoided elevation where possible but tricky around here. The downhills really wreck my quads. Plan it and stick to it. I'd always planned to run daylight hours, 10 x 5km laps to get the 50km. I was flexible whether I started at 7 or 8am. I woke in time for 7 but decided to take it easy and do some yoga. Sunrise was around 7.30am and sunset around 5.20pm so I'd say starting 8 was the best option. Company, I only had company for the last 2 laps and it made a difference. I wasn't necessarily focussing on anything negative on my solo laps near the end but company provides a distraction. This was never a last man standing event for me, I'd done 20 hours before and knew the dark/cold hours weren't fun (I know they're not supposed to be). It also wrecked the next day/following days. This was a compromise and still a big challenge as I'm not doing much more than parkrun distance now days. Hats off to those that pushed through though!! Next time I'd like to try the 1 mile and hour option and do at least 24 (I'd probably try and tick off a marathon so either 26mi/24hr or 26 hours (doing a tiny bit over a mile each lap to get the extra metres). I'll probably do this in a couple of months when spring has sprung. Have no real desire to try the full distance as there's not much recovery time but never say never |

I concur that it's proving tough to recover from. I'm still knackered (but obviously still keeping my streak going )

CumbriAndy
Just done some fag packet sums - looks like my 'little & often' fueling plan delivered not much more than about half the calories I burned through. Probably why I'm still not quite right and evidence that 'a bit more & and just as often' is probably going to have to be worked on in future.
