Lovely badges - thank you Fetch Still pulling my thoughts together on all this - the overall fatigue is taking longer to abate than I expected - but a few observations to be going on with. I managed what I did on Saturday because I committed to the challenge - I decided some time ago that it would be 'an event' and I planned accordingly. I made sure anybody who could be affected knew what I was doing, recced a (small) number of routes I could use, bought a range of foods for fuelling throughout and set up a sort of Basecamp in our utility room from which to operate. I deliberately made myself self-sufficient (I recognise that may not work so well for others) and adapted within the framework I'd set. There's likely some details to tweak when my head starts working again but it seemed to go OK overall |

I had a great time on Saturday, I ran more miles in one day than I've ever done before (all my marathons have involved more than a little walking, but on Saturday I ran every single yard of 45KM) but now I'm starting to think I might have done it wrong. I did it while sleep deprived, my body clock still being messed up from watching the election on TV the night before. I did not plan any routes, just had a vague idea of what loops are about three miles from my front door, and then just made up the distance before I stopped. Did not have a fuelling strategy, I made myself a mug of coffee after my first f'lap, and finished drinking it after my second. I mostly spent the time between f'laps playing on duolingo, I swapped my t-shirt for a dry one every couple of laps, and before the 7am f'lap (when I started my journey to pkrun) I did find time for a quick shower. I had a fried breakfast after my final f'lap / pkrun, and were the cafe not there I probably could have managed another 5k. For next year I think I'll either need to start sooner, or avoid pkruns with a nice cafe if I'm to add an extra 5 or 10K. I am quite tempted to try the same (non) strategy at Manvers Dusk Till Dawn in a couple of weeks time. |

@geordiegirl i cannot run just now owing to injury but Fomo and deciding to be last on purpose so no one else would be last was enough motivation. And now a badge for my great benevolence. Which makes it seem a bit less benevolent now.
