Llamadance quite common for there to be a few kW added on in that situation, usually to cover the couple of days to do the official switch.

But as your meter readings are cumulative that 12 kW would have give you a slightly cheaper first invoice from the new supplier.

Sorry, meant to say new owners would get 12 kW off their first invoice.

They do that as usually there's some power used after final reading.

Wish this thread was titled "utility bills", cos I'm going to ask about phone lines now!

Prompted by Laterunner's blog (https://www.fetcheveryone.com/blog/18925/2023/10/473602 missed a trick, could have called it End of the Landline, anyhoo) who all has still got a BT (or other) land line phone?

Not sure if he was referring to BT changing to internet phone line for the 02 or 01 home number, or if he meant getting rid of the line altogether, including internet and getting internet some other way e.g. Starlink, mobile internet or cable?

We are the middle of those - mobile (Vodafone) for internet and just use mobiles for phones. Vodafone internet isn't great but it's cheap (£10 per month), reasonably consistent (10Mb/s?) and unlike BT, didn't keep dropping out. :-) G

Odd there's a difference between BT and Vodafone, because I suspect the infrastructure is much the same.

We've still got a BT landline, with phones attached. And also no mobile reception at home, so used to rely on Vodafone Sure Signal, now wifi for phone connection back via BT router to Vodafone. So pay money to BT for line & broadband (same cost though, because they credited the £2 a month phone line rental). And to Vodafone (£9 something) for my very basic phone use (which is all wifi at home, no data usage)

Free mobile calls and text and whatsapp mean we very rarely, if ever, use landline to phone out.
