Yes the thing to do is to call 101 to arrange dropping it off, then travel to the drop off location in a car with it inside a bag or similar in the boot and not visible. Announce your presence at the front desk and await instructions

Not walk in with it announced!

My dad had to take his shotgun to the auctioneer in the middle of Glasgow when he was getting it auctioned. I think he was travelling by train but had it dismantled and well disguised in a suitcase, not slung over his shoulder. Of course he was a legal and licensed owner, handing in a random found handgun is a slightly different matter.

All go here, lawyer visited this morning (will probably keep them in fine wine for a few years if recent history is a guide) and then funeral director this afternoon. Never imagined there were so many trivial decisions to make!

Heck what a nightmare with guns real or not.

We found a significant and could be very dangerous knife once stuck in the grass at a lock we picked it up in a carrier bag and tried to contact the local police about it. No answer we went to the station and they were not in the slightest interested and said just dispose of it.

Would have been mum's 100th birthday today - she missed it by just short of four months. We're meeting up with my sister at a local coffee shop this afternoon just to mark the occasion.

Aw! Such a shame but at least you can get together to, hopefully, share happy memories.

Not the same but we did this for dad’s 89th and it was a good opportunity to remember him. I hope it goes well.

The ‘guns’ went into their loft which neither of them can get to so MiL doesn’t have to worry that FiL will sneak them out of the house to Son2. I wonder what the next fixation will be?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
