Coroner shambles continues, my wife attended her appointment at the council only to find the relevant paperwork had not arrived and no progress could be made.

"Oh there's plenty of time still before the funeral" they helpfully reassured her (2 weeks today).

A bit of foot stamping and shouting down the phone (probably not really) and it’s sorted. Fortunately she had made a morning appointment and had something else to do in Skipton through the middle of the day; later that afternoon she went back to the registry office and now has an actual certificate. Which is just as well as we’d already made an appointment with lawyer for tomorrow. Phew.

No one actually believes the cause of death as “frailty due to old age” but no one is going to do anything about it so at least we can get on with things now.

Glad it's been sorted, jda. My Mum's death cert had 'frailty and dementia' down as the causes. It doesn't really sound medical enough, does it?

FiL has some old fake guns - fake as in made of wood with bits of metal fixed to them. He seems to be doing a bit of decluttering of late and tried to give one to Son2 (who said thanks but no thanks). MiL has now got it into her head that Son2 will take them all, they will fall into the wrong hands and will somehow be commissioned as working firearms. She phoned C earlier and told him he had to watch the news because there was going to be a piece on it about guns being picked up by gangs. He said this wouldn’t and couldn’t happen and she got really cross - he clearly just doesn’t understand how serious this is, he’s foolish. She’s totally fixated on it.

Good news jda.

Oh dear Paula. Could they be persuaded to hand them in at a police station?

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
