WhenI first started running my 2nd ever 10km was a massively over hyped 'Nike Human Race'. My first proper glimpse into the coporate side of running. It was truly appalling - stand around in Wembley in the rain, listen to crap bands, listen to people telling you hw great Nike were and then run several times around the car parks and industrial estates surrounding the stadium. Truly terrible.

My girlfriend said the Olympic Park run last year was much the same though....

Any more dull races anyone? I haven't really had any over the last year, even the Grangemouth 10K route was a bit improved.

The Wall Ultra was a bit dull; maybe 20 miles of quite nice in the middle, but that left almost 50 miles of fairly dull, with about a mile of interesting running along Newcastle Quayside amongst the "revellers" at the end.

Olympic park anniversary run last year. May be better now but 4.5 miles round a building site and access roads for 400 metres under the stadium and 300 metres on the track. Lots of friends and great support but the race itself - dullsville.

Reading back, npi, McGoohan will be pleased to learn that the dull plod round Green Park is now shortened and at the beginning of the Reading Half. Still going to be dull down the A33...

Because it is in the same county I ran the one and only Great Yarmouth marathon. Up and down the seafront in October with a section of docks thrown in. Not good :)

Zappi's Gran Fondo cyclosportive. It's not a race, I know, but it's as bored as I've ever been on a bicycle.

Thorney 5 mile and 10k use a similar route of long straight, exposed Fenland roads with cones to turn around. the 10k has the spice of the farm tracks. The plus side of this route is it is very flat and couldn't be any flatter if it was flattened further, so has potential for a quick time if the wind is kind.
