A small thermonuclear device would be much quicker and make the town far more scenic.

True, but HS2 would provide employment for the thousands of ne-er-do-wells clogging up Bedford Park on a Monday evening smoking dope...

One reason why this will happen is that they are only ever going to build HS2 through places that people might actually want to go. And nobody wants to go to Luton. And do you really want to give people a chance to escape - have you seen the people there?

Ok, thermonuclear device it is then. With a smaller relative timed to go off in Bedford Park just before, say, 6.30 on a Monday or Wednesday evening.

I'm sure many people will disagree with me, but I found Brighton Marathon to be really quite uninspiring. They managed to shoe-horn 26.2 miles of running into about 6 miles of seafront, including running past the Pavilion three times and a lap of a park. There were lots of out and back sections making up distance as well.

Grunty Fen half marathon. Sells out every year as it is so flat, but long, straight, seemingly endless roads next to fields. Dullsville.

Seconded, Vicksta. Especially dull and progressively more of a slog in the very hot weather. Wind swirls round in every direction too.
