For some reason I found Soham half marathon much worse than Grunty Fen. Seriously boring, with what felt like a long stretch along what seemed a pretty busy road.

I know where you're coming from DeeGee. Although to be fair to Brighton, I think they are trying to get as many entries as possible by keeping runners onto the more flatter sections of the course. Yes there are some hills but I would not want to start the race half way up the A23 or climb the South Downs either.

I have not done Luton before (although I have spent a day there once). Having read this thread, I don't see myself entering this marathon in a while.

If Morrissey was a Fetchie, this is the thread he would inhabit.

The dullest races tend to be the ones in which I have posted better times. If the race is described as 'scenic views' it probably means you have climbed a monster of a hill (or more) in the process, injured yourself in getting up it and ended up finishing just before the sweep vehicle!

Teaboy - I escaped from Luton. Took me 29 years but damn it, I did it! Shame my folks still live there so I'm obliged to visit the place occasionally.

As for the Luton Marathon, the combination of rural and urban with a gently undulating route actually makes it fairly interesting even though you have to do it three times!

If you want dull, the Rotterdam Marathon is as boring as anything you'll ever race. A city with no features whatsoever and is a damning indictment of post-war architecture and planning. Zzzzzzz.

You mentioning it has led to me trying to remember anything about Rotterdam. Hell, it's not even a PB course if you're not at the front. There's no reason to enter unless you can, say, get there and back cheaply and quickly from either your local airport or ferryport :-)

The misleadingly named Garden City 10 went round industrial estates and the only vegetation was weeds...
It was binned last year but is coming back as a off road trail run which sounds a lot more promising

They tell me the Lakeland 100 is fairly dull, nothing but industrial estates. ;-)
