Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

.....and although I'll be lynched by my club, the Soham marathon is considerably better than Grunty Fen.

Maidenhead 10M - first 3M round a 1980's technology park and finishing in, ta-da, the same business park. Dull and painful and a PB - hmm.

Postieboy - I work in Luton - and have cycled the country roads section of it many times! Still hate the place with a passion though!

Edinburgh's not dull! Arthur's Seat, views of the sea, big country house estate thing and a finish in a grandstand. Fair amount of support too.

Some of those LDWA marathons are boring as fook, endless fields, copses, the occasional farm, the obligatory golf course. The events in the south west counties are virtually interchangeable. You can't even spend much time looking at the scenery because you're following 4 A4 sheets of coded instructions. The only reasons to run them are if you're a skinflint and like the Tesco value reheated meals at the end.

Not sure I'd agree with RR and say the Mablethorpe Marathon is dull. It has its charms - bearing in mind it's at sea level and never goes above it. I live on the Lincolnshire Coast and I find it generally quite pleasant.

The second lap however, takes a less-than scenic route, adds an interminable zigzag through a second housing estate to bring you up further down the sea wall, giving you an extra half mile of leg-sapping concrete.

There are no real crowds on the race route, but folk are out onthe prom on the way in.

It's further prrof that you get either fast times or scenery, but not both.

+1 for Edinburgh. The only good bits are the first 3 miles and the finish.
