I can't stand the Elmbridge 10k. 5k in a straight line on a really boring road with nothing to see. Then the excitement of turninga corner, followed by 5k back up the towpath. Which is at least scenic, but not nice underfoot.

I've not done it, nor do I know anyone who has done it, but this thread surely isn't complete without a mention of the Sri Chimnoy Self-Transcendance 3,100 Mile Race, which consists of 5,649 laps of the same city block in New York, over 52 days. en.wikipedia.org

I think that's got to be the winner, Spleen.

I also agree with you Derby Tup. Due to the congestion, you spend the first 18 miles of the London Marathon trying not to run into/trip the people around you. If you do get the chance to view the scenery, it's really not all that. The only good bits are the places the BBC set up their cameras.

Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Embankment to the finish. That is it for London.

GNR has a bridge at the start, the rest of the race is shit, and then you q for 8 hours trying to get out of a NE coastal town with 10 million other people.

Never, ever, again.

Oooh, how could I forget Dewsbury 10k? Great for a pb but up and down one road with a load of supermarkets and cash and carry's on. It is simply awful.

The Diss 10k is reasonably scenic, it just has a small field and a couple of very long straight roads. I spent a mile chasing down the bloke in front whilst hearing the inevitable footsteps behind get slightly louder over a period of five minutes. It sounds way better than most of the stuff mentioned here.

My brother in-law has a look of hatred whenever you discuss the Blackpool marathon and even though he didn't do it there was a Manchester half he talks about that involved industrial estates, insufficient medical cover and lots of cases of hypothermia.

The Blackpool marathon does seem to be popularly unpopular with a lot of people. About 3.5 times more unpopular than the half, which scores pretty low itself.

(I think Blackpool miss a trick. A point to point 10K where everyone travelled out on vintage trams would be quite jolly. Unless it was 10K into the wind, I suppose.)

I've just run the dullest race I have ever done, The Monklands Half Marathon. It was "don't want...
