fozzy - you criticising the reporting, or South Korea there? Going back a few days - there is indeed a contact tracing app in Northern Ireland, which is a development of (and compatible/shares data with) the one from the Republic. I have it installed, as do other family members. It doesn't make any difference to my battery use, or phone temperature(!?). It'll need time to prove how effective it is (and there's not very many cases it seems over here relatively speaking), but at least it's something started. Honestly don't know why GB couldn't be doing something similar/same, but perhaps I'm missing something. nidirect.gov.uk |

Balance of risk. And context. Etc. fozzy? Maybe in Korea, people don't get on bus after running n sweaty? So for a normal, standing waiting person, an elevated temperature might be a reasonable indicator of illness? And if nothing else, it *may* help to identify? Obviously if it shoots out a spear or drops an high voltage electric net on anyone with a temp above 39C then that's probably a bit out of order? |

I'm criticising the temperature measuring thing by thermal cameras in totality and implementing them for this method. It's a stupid idea. Because the chances of a false positive are way too high. Rapid testing is the only solution. |

I beg to differ rt_fozzy. I was in Hong Kong in March, most places temperature checked you before letting you in. I ran one morning it was particularly hot outside I ran hard and was melting by the end. My temperature was lower than the previous temperature checks I had. We have implemented it at some sites where I work. Ok it’s not saying you have covid but it’s a potential early indicator. |

It sounds to me like an idea to minimise the risk and maybe will help those who are anxious . Won’t eliminate the risk. And it’s expensive.

I think 37.5 is high for skin temp, so would be unlikely to pick up anything other than fever (or maybe a "hot flush")

Testing only tells you at that time you are negative doesn’t mean you’ll be negative tomorrow so how many tests do you do and how often?

So, evidence: FDA says it's certainly not fool-proof and subject to false-positive and false-negatives: fda.gov Systematic review of the literature (ok, from 2014) suggests that the evidence is mixed, at best. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov |
