Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

So apparently, "there is little evidence that Covid is transmitted in schools" according to Gavin Williamson.

Is that possibly because most schools have been shut since the beginning of the pandemic?

Discuss..

After a long and sweaty walk, I had lunch at a local eatery. Walked straight in. Got a table. Not that busy. Lovely sea view too

Dave W - Contrary to what the MSM might tell you I think you’ll find almost all schools have been open throughout for key workers kids. Admittedly with lower numbers but arguably with kids of families whose parents are in more higher risk of infection occupations. A lot of teachers get frustrated with the inference schools have been shut when in reality they haven’t.

this is a new one on me

A surge in cases in Spain has prompted the authorities in the north-western Galicia region to ban smoking in public places if social distancing is not possible. Experts say smoking increases the risk of transmission, partly because masks are not worn and smokers project droplets when they exhale

meanwhile in Germany

In Germany, where schools have been reopening in recent weeks, the environment agency has called for classrooms to be ventilated for 45 minutes after every lesson. It added that classrooms, offices and homes should also be ventilated with wide-open windows after every cough or sneeze

Not sure how that will work

EP, that smoking transmission risk does seem new. Have seen plenty about worse outcomes for smokers if they get infected and other transmission vectors such as hand to mouth whilst smoking and shared smoking.

In our holiday cottage guests are required to strip their beds and leave the windows open and the cleaner goes in after 2 hours. So far every guest has done this.

Our school was part of the PHE study that Gavin Williamson was quoting. Bubbles of 15, lots of hand washing, outdoor time and relaxed curriculum to give time for it all. Staff stayed in their bubbles with the children - one teacher, one TA, one dinner lady. Everyone ate packed lunches in the classroom. All doors and windows open. No before/after school clubs (we opened 8 - 4 to help working parents with children coming to school any time between 8 & 9 to suit their own timescales). No one was ill with anything.

It will be very different in September - classes of 36 in KS2 and literally not enough room for staff to keep 2m away; mostly normal timetable - we are expecting OFSTED so daren't deviate too much; before/after school club running; hot lunches in the dining room etc etc...

My husbands brother and family live in France. My niece was back at school a couple of months ago and they kept the kids in one classroom and the teachers came to them. Lunch and break times were staggered and the kids stayed in their own bubbles. No issues, kids got educated, saw friends and were all very safe. My sil was nervous sending her but she said it was the best thing. No one got ill.

Husband just went to collect a parcel at the post office - outside collection point he got wrong for not having a mask. They need to update their cards not only did he queue 25min on Tuesday to collect said parcel from inside the post office to get to front and be told its changed to 7-9am outside collections only.
