On the overheating app, my work have us using MS Teams. However for about 30% of the staff, the kit we are on means teams doesnt work via our remote logon and so we are asked to use our personal mobile devices.

MS Teams drains the battery very quickly and the phones overheat. Add to that my wifi access means I used all my data and needed to upgrade to a better package.

IT basically said tough

EP - that's awful. The pub/restaurant we ate in had us logging in to an app with email/name/adress and ordering from it. No issue with T+T.

I refused to go into a cafe that had a sheet of paper on a table that you added your name, email, phone no. and adress to - if they don't get the GDPR regs, how are they supposed to be trusted with anything else?

According to the govt's data, they are only using about half of their capacity for tests (eg today 164,000 tests, 338,000 capacity). So I personally wouldn't have too many qualms about faking an excuse for a test if I felt it was warranted. However the problems with false negatives and incubation period remain, so a negative result would only be a modest piece of evidence in support, not a conclusive proof of anything.

Which actually makes it a bit pointless, so I've talked myself out of it!

Some scientists suggested that two tests, about a week apart, should enable the 2 week quarantine to be safely reduced to about 10 days (ie the risk they would pose after two such negative tests would be no higher than just sitting out the full 14 days). But that's a fairly modest benefit.

Rosehip, I went into a pub that had a sheet where you put your name and phone number on, and of course you could see everyone else’s who went in before me. It wasn’t until afterwards that I twigged that that was a GDPR breach, I wish I had thought to contact them and say something about that.

Is that a breach. People put details there knowing others could see them ?

It is if there isn't a specific statement to remind you of the fact and for you to explicitly give permission (I think )

Rosehip, I haven’t been in any pubs or restaurants, but think I’d be reticent about going somewhere which just had a pen and paper list too.

When we were in London on the weekend, OH and I popped into a cafe for coffee and cake (made sure this was after we’d visited my Nan) - they had a QR code which you scanned, which popped up with an email template for you to send your contact details. OH asked what would happen if you didn’t have a phone capable of scanning the code - they had a clipboard and pot of disinfected pens behind the counter for people to write their details, looked like it was a stack of paper so different pages for each person (but couldn’t say that for certain).
