My memory of childhood is that there weren't many hugs. In fact I find it quite difficult now that my elderly parents expect a hug goodbye. Professionally I do hug my patients quite a bit but they are young children. I would not hug their parents and rarely go beyond touching their hand as I cannot be sure what they would want.

Shaking hands? A social ritual which I think we can live without.

I miss hugs and find handshakes really helpful in a professional context.

Another person not keen on physical contact, particularly from male colleagues in the form of hugging. I have always suspected it is a sideways crafty grope.
Handshakes I can just about tolerate.

I read today that the Far Eastern custom of bowing as a greeting or farewell rather than shaking hands, kissing and hugging may have helped them control the virus.

I think I might try to start a bowing trend, as another non-hugger...😊

I come from a family where leaving a family 'do' took ages as you had go around and hug and kiss everyone - and there lots to get around (and this was after you'd kissed and hugged on the way in...)
I'm not an overly demonstrative person but I do hug and kiss all my friends and often my previous work colleagues - we didn't see each other every day and it was a very European mix, so meeting with a kiss on each cheek was normal (and no crafty gropes from the guys...)
I'm hoping to see a friend at the weekend, and it will be strange not to touch at all.

I work in an industry where a hug and kiss was an expected greeting. I won’t miss that. I had one colleague hug me then say ‘is this allowed now?’ with a smirk (it was the time when MeToo was in the headlines) and another who kissed me on the head when I ducked away from a cheek kiss. Shudder! However I really miss hugs from friends and family, especially my parents who I haven’t seen in person for months. My best hugs and cuddles are from my husband and cats. I’m so lucky to have them.
