Most unis are doing lots online, and by mid December I reckon the first wave will have gone through student accommodation. Closing unis now would just spread the virus more not less. Schools are trickier. I do think secondary school students should be wearing masks as a minimum.

Gove is just an idiot. We are following the evidence and schools have an incredibly low level of infection rate so schools should remain open.

ONS Evidence put to him that secondary school pupils have highest rate of positivity of all age groups and he starts talking about places of worship.

UCL announced last week that they are staying online for the rest of the academic year. That at least gives some certainty and enables students to plan around it such as with accomodation

Although I am glad that face to face teaching will continue at secondary level for the moment, realistically I don't think the schools will be able to stay open. Certainly not round here. The rates in school aged kids seems to be rising and I think there'll be more and more bubbles closing.

Dragged my @rse out of bed early to get possibly my last swim in before the new lock down. Slightly busier than the last time I went and most of the people in the slow lane were faster than me!

Guess that's what devolved government is all about.

One nation can look at an area with low infection rate and put it into total lockdown with everywhere else in that country.

Another nation might decide that's not justifiable or proportionate. And that a regionalised approach is preferable.

I would like to see Scotland try its five level approach.

Hope that Boris isn't juvenile enough to deny Scotland November furlough if they do so.

Tim - I wouldn’t be too hopeful of that. We’re mid way through a two week ‘fire break’ lock down in Wales - prior to his happening, our First Minister asked the UK government to extend he furlough scheme in Wales to support the businesses that had to shut, he was told this wasn’t possible. Obviously now England are having another national lockdown, they are extending the furlough scheme in England.
